Bridging the Gap

While working at his site, Louis, a CHIOC Health Access Assister, helped a woman who was disappointed after receiving a letter stating that her Medi-Cal coverage would be discontinued and moved to Covered California. Understanding her concerns, he provided a list of required documents and encouraged her to return so he could help her find the best plan.

A week later, she came back with everything needed to apply. As they completed the application, she was shocked to see that her monthly premium for a Silver 87 plan with Health Net would be just $1, offering excellent coverage and a low deductible. She was pleased with the affordability and immediately enrolled.

Before leaving, she expressed her gratitude for CHIOC’s assistance and took extra flyers to share with her coworkers, whose jobs did not offer insurance coverage. Louis was happy to know that his help would not only benefit her but also potentially many others in the community.
